Madame Tussaud’s Wax Figures - 1972

Wax figures of Eric and Ern were unveiled on Friday 11th February 1972.
They remained on show for 5 years and taken down in 1977.

Eric and Ern Awarded OBE - Nov 24th 1974

Eric and Ern arrived at Buckingham Palace to receive their OBEs.

Honorary Degree 1977

In July 1977 Eric was presented with an Honorary Degree from Princess Alexandra by The University of Lancaster.

Plaques 1995 to 2013

Plaques have been erected around the country to honour both Eric and Ern.
19th May 2013 a plaque was erected at Teddington Studios.
14th May 1995 a plaque was erected at 85 Torrington Park London.
11th May 1997 a plaque was erected to honour Eric at Teddington studios.
On the 10th October 1999 two plaques were unveiled at BBC TV Center, one for each of them.
1999 and two plaques were put up on each of the houses where Eric lived in Morecambe.

British Genius Statue - 1977

To celebrate British Genuis, a huge fibre glass statue was erected in Battersea Park, London. It was removed after the event and went missing for some time. Where is it now?

On July 23rd 1999, the Queen unveiled a bronze statue of Eric in his home town of Morecambe.

Funniest person of the 20th Century - 1999

Eric was voted the funniest person of the 20th Century in 1999 via an internet poll.
Winning with 26% of the votes ahead of John Cleese and Tommy Cooper.

Thanks for the Sunshine - Sep 26th 1999

A tribute day honouring 43 years of comedy from British TV greats Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise. A plaque calling the duo "the century's finest double-act" was unveiled at Pinewood Studios, Buckinghamshire, where they filmed some of their 1960s movies.
Joan Morecambe said she was delighted to be awarding her husband yet another accolade. Doreen Wise said she had shed a few tears during the day, saying "Eric and Ernie worked so hard but they've had an everlasting effect on British comedy."

4th Greatest Comedy Act Ever - 2005

In a 2005 comedian's comedian poll, he was voted 4th greatest comedy act ever. Just in front of him were (in reverse order) Woody Allen, John Cleese and Peter Cook.

Iconic Glasses Wearer - January 2009

In January 2009 Specsavers conducted a poll to find the most iconic glasses wearer in the World. Eric made it in to number five behind.. in reverse order. 4 Gok Wan, 3 Dame Edna, 2 John Lennon, 1 Elton John. We can understand Elton, John and Dame Edna... but Gok... c'mon!!!

Ernie Wise Statue - March 2010

On the 4th March 2010, Doreen Wise unveiled the statue of Ernie in Morley, Leeds.

Influential - Feb 2012

A commissioned poll by TV channel Dave for the Leicester Comedy Festival in 2012 put Morecambe and Wise in second place as Most influential comedian of all time. Just beating Eric and Ern was Billy Connolly. Others in the list included Victoria Wood, Eddie Izzard and Ben Elton.
