Posted: 01/04/2013 New ArticleWe have added a new article from 1972 entitled A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Boardroom. The artcle appeared in the Sportsworld magazine and focuses on Eric's love of football and of course Luton Town. The article can be found in our Articles section for 1972 or directly read the article here.Posted: 01/04/2013 New Photograph, Old StatueA very kind Morecambe and Wise fan has sent us a photograph of the fibre glass statue, in its original location, Battersea Park, on 4th September 1977. This image is the first one we’ve seen of the statue in it’s very short-lived appearance in the park. Shortly after it was moved due to complaints from residents. The image can be seen in our feature about the statue and our gallery page. Thanks to Stuart for sending us the picture. Posted: 01/04/2013 Statue MovedAfter the Miranda Hart program it would seem that the fibreglass statue of Eric and Ern has been moved from its original location that we tracked down in 2007. The bad news is that the new location is unknown (believed to be South Wales). The good news is that it has at last been renovated. It is good to know that it is being looked after.
You can read our original feature about the statue here.Posted: 30/03/2013 John Ammonds TributeWith the very sad passing of John Ammonds on 13th, as a tribute we are releasing our extensive and exclusive interview with him conducted in 2007. We had not previously released this material by request of John himself, as he used much of the content in his after-dinner speaking and events. He asked we use it only when he no longer did these functions. It was a wonderful and insightful interview with a warm and knowledgeable man. You can read the interview here.Posted: 16/02/2013 Sad NewsWe have been notified through various sources of the very sad passing of John Ammonds, Eric and Ern's producer throughout most of their radio and television days. John was a tremendous character and a very talented producer, having spent a lifetime in the entertainment industry. We will be releasing our full interview with him as a tribute very shortly.
This sad news comes after the passing of another person with Morecambe and Wise connections, Jean Bamforth. Our recent feature (Morecambe, Bamforth and Wise) tells the story of her life and her connection to Eric and Ern.
Our thoughts are with both families at this very sad time. Posted: 14/02/2013 Lost Tapes CancelledThe anticipated CD, due for release in January 2013, containing many unheard and previously lost audio material from Morecambe and Wise has been cancelled.
Fans with orders may have already been informed of delays with their order, but they are soon to be told that the product will not be released.
This is very sad news as some of the material planned for the CD had never been heard before and some had been thought lost until recently.
Whatever the reason for the decision, we hope fans will at some time get to hear these rare and important clips, rather than hording them away to be lost or deleted again. The RSPB, helped by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Lancashire Environment Fund and Higher Level Stewardship, have built a new hide which was officially opened on Saturday 27th October 2012.
Eric’s daughter Gail was invited to open the hide and was accompanied by Michael Fountain, Erics driver. You can read the full (extended) press release in our features section and see more image in our galley.Posted: 28/10/2012
