Ernie gets measured

The end result
Like many of the famous entertainers, sports personalities, rock stars and Royals, Eric and Ern have held a residence at the world renowned Madame Tussaud’s in London.

The pair were measured up and the life-like effigies were revealed to the press and public in 1972. To be exact, Friday 11th February 1972 in the ‘Entertainers’ area.

The figures, sculptured by Adrianne Packman, were correct in every detail, down to hair and eye colour after a prior sitting at Tussaud’s studios.

Eric and Ern were on hand to unveil their counterparts, and give the press opportunities to take photographs at 11.45am, fifteen minutes before the grand opening.

At the time Ern seemed happy with his portrait, but Eric commented that his looked more like Cliff Mitchelmore!

The models were on display for 5 years, being removed, ironically, at the peak of their career in 1977.
