The boys at the palace

Showing off the OBEs
A flunky met me at the Palace door and took my gloves and top hat.

I was glad to get rid of it.

We were taken along a corridor full of antiques – one of them Eric – and along another corridor into the throne room.

Then we went into a little ante-room where Eric and I were choreographed. It wasn`t too painful.

On the word `Wise` we walked forward and bowed to receive our OBEs.

Her majesty’s stand in shook our hands and we exited stage left.

We were so nervous that we had to go to the other throne room, but we were back in time for the ceremony.

Her Majesty looked radiant. The orchestra played Bring Me Sunshine and we stepped forward together.

Her Majesty smiled and said: `Well deserved, you give a lot of pleasure to a lot of people.` I thought: Don’t tell the wife.

Her Majesty shook our hands and we exited stage left, and a military gentleman gave us a box each to put the OBEs in.

I came home and had a cup of tea.
